Smile-Care Tips for Traveling

Posted .

As you may already know, it’s important to do all you can to keep your smile in tip-top shape on a regular basis. However, many forget that this also means they need to keep up on oral hygiene while they’re traveling as well. If you’re one of these people, it’s time to keep your teeth and gums in mind while you’re on the road. To help you take good care of your smile, Dr. Joseph Kayne and our dental team have some tips for you.

First, brush your teeth for at least two minutes every morning and every night. As you do so, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste that have been approved by the American Dental Association. This will help you eliminate the harmful bacteria from the surfaces of your teeth.

Second, floss your teeth at least once a day—after each time you eat if possible. Feel free to floss with a flossing product of your choice and scrape the sides of each tooth. As you floss, be gentle along the gumline.

Third, pack travel-sized oral hygiene tools with you. The smaller the brush, the better because it will only take a little bit of room in your suitcase. It’s also recommended to pack a toothbrush cover so you can keep the bristles away from germs and bacteria. When it comes to toothpaste, only pack paste that weighs about or less than 3.4 ounces. This is recommended because there is a weight limit for liquids boarding an aircraft. If you aren’t flying, you can pack a normal tube if you desire.
